Tension, tightness around the neck and shoulders are common symptoms of modern living. This is not helped by the increasing sedentary lifestyle and symptoms of ‘tech neck’. Whilst tension around the jaw is often a stress related response, be it emotional or mental stress, which is primordial.
At a physiological level, muscles along the upper back may become chronically tight, which most likely affect breathing efficiency, and unnecessary negative tension in the upper back, along the neck, shoulders and jaw. Some may feel the need to take deep breaths, or sigh every so often, in the attempt to relief and reset. These symptoms have a direct and profound effect on one’s self-esteem, confidence, emotional balance and perspective in life.
- A&P of the upper back, neck and shoulders
- Sensory Intelligence
- Tension release and relaxation practices to alleviate discomfort
- Learn optimal engagement for healthy breathing and posture
- Experience postures to strengthen and support
In this workshop, we will practise various tension release poses, followed by mobilization, and elongation. We will then explore ways to balance asymmetrical habitual patterns in our body, and work towards strengthening poses through asana and breathing practices.
Adelene will guide participants through a journey of the upper body, and shall discuss how this may be integrated into daily living. For all levels. Informative and practical for both students, experienced practitioners and teachers.
