Foundations of Iyengar Yoga with Tedrah Smothers Session 1


This first weekend will begin with the basics. It will be an introduction to the Iyengar method of yoga instruction and learning. 

The Iyengar approach develops systematic intelligence. It is progressive in nature, so each class will build from simple to more complex poses in a direct and clear manner.

There is an emphasis on alignment and precision in the asanas, but more for the purpose of focusing the mind’s attention, than for the attainment of perfection. 

Observation is an integral part of the experience. The skill of observation brings awareness. This develops Self knowledge as well as  Self compassion. 

Props may be used in poses to educate the body and bring support while learning something new. 

The Iyengar practice does involve staying in poses while paying attention to specific actions. BKS Iyengar described this process as “meditation in action.”
