Our next reason to love yoga is the increased quality of respiration one gets when they consistently practice. At some point during a yoga class you have most likely been asked to focus on your breathing or to use your breath to control the pace of a set of movements. Deeper breaths, longer counts, and more focus on the air within your lungs all help to create better lung capacity and therefore higher quality respiration overall. While certain poses like cat and cow really force you to focus on your breathing, every pose within yoga benefits from more breath control. Our lungs are the gateway to oxygen flow. Easy, efficient breathing is central to health. Next time you're on the mat, make sure to focus your attention on your breathing!
