Reason #4: Yoga develops your balance

Regularly practicing yoga has many great benefits, including our 4th reason, an increase in your ability to balance.   How does it work?  Practicing yoga helps improve your proprioception, which is your ability to feel the relative position of your body in space. It also helps to loosen your joints.  Tight joints and poor proprioception => imbalance of muscular development =>  inability to balance.  Why should we care about balance? An imbalance of muscles can lead to back, knee, and shoulder pain,  not to mention more falls, especially as we get older!

By practicing yoga you bring symmetry to your body and develop better balance at the same time. And we're just talking about physical balance here -- there are many ways yoga improves the broader picture of balance in our lives. Fodder for a future blog post!
